From October 2022, waste collection in Mid Devon will change to encourage increased recycling and reduced waste.

The Bin-it 123 collection cycle will change the frequency of waste collection – food will be collected once a week and recycling every two weeks as already happens, and non-recyclable waste will now be collected every three weeks. Trial figures suggest this will encourage residents to prioritise recycling, and also reduce carbon emissions produced by waste collection vehicles.

How is this helping Devon reach net-zero?

Action R8:  Achieve a 65% municipal waste recycling rate by 2035. To do so, local authorities and commercial waste carriers to separately collect a wider variety of materials for recycling (including food waste) and household waste collection systems to be harmonised across Devon as far as viable.
