Environment Agency launches roadmap for practical actions against flooding and coastal erosion
The Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management (FCERM) Strategy Roadmap, launched by the Environment Agency at the Flood and Coast Conference, has set out concrete steps to prepare for the impacts of flooding and coastal erosion as consequences of climate change.
The Roadmap will be delivered with the help of a variety of partners including local authorities, farmers and environmental groups. It aims to protect homes and national infrastructure (such as roads and railways) from flooding, as well as to improve the environment and develop long term adaptation strategies, amongst other points.
These actions will be funded using £5.2 billion invested in flood and coastal defences by the government. It is hoped that the investment and this roadmap will protect the economy and hundreds of thousands of properties, while also supporting positive actions for the environment.
