Cycle and pedestrian route

Following a public consultation earlier this year, a series of works are taking place along Marine Drive in Paignton in order to increase active travel infrastructure. The works include permanent widening and improvement of the pavement, an upgrade to an existing and installation of an additional crossing point, improvement to cycling facilities and the introduction of a 20mph zone.

These works were introduced as part of Torbay Council’s Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan: a strategy to improve the environment for active travel, and to improve useability for people walking, cycling and wheeling.

With transport causing 30% of all of Devon’s greenhouse gas emissions, creating new infrastructure to support a safe, accessible transition to active travel is key to enabling residents to make sustainable transport choices.

How is this helping Devon reach net-zero?

Action T9 – Where possible, design pavements and junctions to prioritise pedestrians and cyclists.

Action T10 – Introduce reduced speed limits where appropriate.

Action T11 – Reallocate road capacity to sustainable modes.
