Great news from North Devon, where plans are moving forward to create a new community woodland in Slade Valley after North Devon Council approved the purchase of 11 acres of land. The site will be transformed into a publicly accessible woodland with walking routes, disabled access and a picnic area, helping people connect with nature while supporting climate action.

Trees and woodlands have an important role to play in tackling the climate and ecological emergencies. By creating new woodland, this project will help capture carbon, support wildlife, improve access to green space and strengthen nature recovery across Devon.

This initiative directly supports the Devon Carbon Plan goal FD: The Potential for Land to Address the Climate and Ecological Emergencies is Being Used to Maximum Effect.

The project also reflects Goal CE: Landscape Change Arising from the Net-Zero Challenge is Planned for Positively, helping communities shape and benefit from landscape changes that contribute to a net-zero future.

By investing in nature-based solutions and creating spaces that benefit both people and wildlife, North Devon is showing how local action can help deliver the ambitions of the Devon Carbon Plan.

How Is this helping devon Reach net-zero?
