Unwanted bikes in Torbay given a new lease of life
16.05.22

Torbay Council have successfully refurbished and re-sold a fleet of 20 bicycles, as part of a rehabilitation bike maintenance course at HMP Channings Wood.
The bike maintenance course helps prisoners to gain new, valuable skills, helping them to find job opportunities after release.
Bikes are sold at Torbay Leisure Centre for £20, all of which is re-invested into the programme.
Providing affordable, second-hand bicycles to residents in Torbay increases opportunities for sustainable travel, whilst supporting prisoner rehabilitation. This scheme nicely demonstrates the interconnection between social welfare and making sustainable choices.
When bikes become available, they will be advertised on Torbay Leisure Centre’s social media accounts.
