The University of Exeter has reached the finals of Green Gown Awards UK & Ireland  – an award scheme which recognises the exceptional sustainability initiatives being undertaken by universities and colleges across the world. They were successful in the Student Engagement Category and now have to compete in the final rounds.

The University was nominated for its Green Futures Student Solutions programme, which dedicates £15,000 annually to student-led projects that deliver sustainable benefits for its stakeholders. The panel for application assessment included staff from the Student Guild, Environment and Climate Emergency Team, and Education Climate Advocates. The successful students manage the projects, considering everything from budgets to time management – skills they will carry forward to their future roles in the workplace.

Fraser Browning, Technical Evaluator for the University of Exeter’s Environment and Climate Change team, who led on the project said: “It’s great to see our projects recognised in the wider sector. The Green Futures Student Solutions initiative has been really satisfying to lead on, so I’m delighted to see it nominated for an award. I look forward to getting feedback from this year’s cohort so we can make it even better next year, and would love to see the scheme mirrored by other institutions!”
