The Government has announced that new trials in local authority areas across the UK, including Plymouth, will encourage GPs to offer social prescriptions such as active travel to improve mental and physical health.

The pilot projects have been awarded £12.7 million in multi-year funding. These funds will contribute to the implementation of projects such as adult cycle training, free bike loans and walking groups.

This new initiative to encourage more active travel has both health and environmental benefits, as a reduction in driving will reduce emissions and improve air quality, alongside reducing stress and warding off other illnesses.
