Torridge District Council Begins Transition to Electric Vehicles
23.05.25

Torridge District Council has taken a proactive step in reducing its carbon footprint by introducing three electric vehicles (EVs) to its fleet, replacing older diesel vans.
Two of the new EVs will support the estates team with maintenance tasks and the operation of the pannier markets. The third will be used by the Northam Burrows rangers for managing the country park and supporting volunteer events.
The vehicles will be based at Riverbank House in Bideford, where they’ll be charged using renewable electricity generated by rooftop solar panels.
Councillor Peter Hames, Lead Member for Climate Change, said the move supports the Council’s goal to be carbon neutral by 2030 and offers long-term cost savings.
This initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with Devon’s broader climate emergency response.
