Teignbridge District Council has committed more than £200,000 to enhance rural access and connectivity, supporting inclusive infrastructure and low-carbon travel. The funding, provided through the UK Government’s Rural England Prosperity Fund, is helping deliver projects that benefit both communities and the environment.

One of the key initiatives is a new off-road path in Moretonhampstead, developed by the Moretonhampstead Community Trust. The route runs through the town’s Community Orchard and connects to the Wray Valley Trail, offering a safe, level, and accessible link for walkers, cyclists, wheelchair users, and families with pushchairs.

This investment supports Devon Climate Emergency’s goals by:

  • Encouraging active travel and reducing car dependency
  • Improving access to green spaces and local amenities
  • Supporting community-led, sustainable infrastructure

Teignbridge is also offering further grants of up to £75,000 for capital projects that deliver long-term community and environmental benefits. Local groups are encouraged to apply.
