‘Swift’ action taken by Winchcombe and Western Power Distribution to provide nesting boxes
01.06.22

Members of the Winchcombe Swift Support Group (WSSG) worked together with volunteers from the Evesham team of Western Power Distribution to place 40 handmade nesting boxes for swifts on 26 town buildings.
Volunteers from Western Power Distribution have experience working at great heights, enabling the boxes to be installed safely.
The birds are set to arrive at the start of summer, and the provision of nesting boxes should help to support the declining swift population. In recent years, swifts – who typically nest in buildings – have struggled to find nesting areas due to homes being modernised, so the nesting boxes will provide safe housing for swifts to raise their broods.
