We are thrilled to announce that work has officially begun on the new Okehampton Interchange, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to sustainable travel and reducing carbon emissions in Devon. This £15 million project, funded by the Department for Transport, Devon County Council, and West Devon Borough Council, will enhance connectivity and support our climate goals. The interchange is strategically located on the edge of Okehampton, just two minutes from the A30, making it easily accessible. The station will feature step-free access via a footbridge, lift, and ramps, ensuring it is accessible to all.

The Okehampton Interchange is designed to encourage sustainable travel options, with 200 parking spaces, including EV charging points, and improved walking and cycling links. Local bus services will be integrated, improving connectivity between Okehampton, Bude, Holsworthy, Tavistock, and Exeter. This integration will make it easier for residents to choose sustainable travel options, reducing traffic and carbon emissions. Additionally, the new station will connect more people with jobs, education, healthcare, and other opportunities, boosting the local economy.

Councillor Andrea Davis, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Change, Environment and Transport, highlighted the importance of this project, stating, “The Okehampton Interchange is an important progression for the Dartmoor Line, making sustainable travel a more realistic option across a wider area of the county and helping tackle carbon emissions.” This project builds on the success of the Dartmoor Line, which has exceeded expectations since reopening in 2021, with over 250,000 passengers in its first year. The Okehampton Interchange will further reduce traffic and carbon emissions, making it easier for residents to choose sustainable travel options.
