Plymouth’s Ice Cream Vans Go Green on the Waterfront
25.07.25

Plymouth City Council has launched a clean energy initiative to reduce emissions from ice cream vans along Hoe Road. Five electric charging points have been installed, allowing vendors to power their freezers with green electricity instead of diesel engines. This move not only cuts harmful exhaust fumes but also helps sellers save on fuel costs.
Thanks to £40,000 from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and support from local partners, the project avoided the need for costly new electric vans by enabling conversions using transformers. Vendors have praised the quieter, cooler, and more environmentally friendly setup, which enhances the visitor experience at Plymouth Sound National Marine Park.
