Plymouth has been officially recognised as a Nature City, celebrating its pioneering work and ambitious plans to integrate nature into urban life. The award, granted by a partnership between Natural England, the National Trust and The National Lottery Heritage Fund, acknowledges cities that prioritise green infrastructure and nature-based solutions to improve health, wellbeing and resilience, particularly in areas of inequality.

This accolade follows the launch of the Plymouth Plan for Nature and People, a blueprint to ensure every resident can access and enjoy natural spaces. Judges praised Plymouth’s strong partnership approach, involving the Council, communities and national organisations, and its commitment to innovative funding strategies. They also highlighted the breadth of priorities and extensive public engagement underpinning the plan.

Nature City status will help Plymouth unlock future investment opportunities, ensuring its blue and green spaces remain vibrant and well-maintained for generations.
