Open Eco Homes Devon: Help Bring Low‑Energy Living to Your Community
08/04/2026

Open Eco Homes Devon is launching a county‑wide programme inviting local people to help run inspiring open‑home events across Devon. Taking place between mid‑September and mid‑October 2026, these events give residents the chance to visit real homes and hear first‑hand experiences of making practical improvements such as insulation, retrofit, heat pumps, solar panels and everyday low‑energy living.
The idea is simple and effective. Local homeowners open their doors, answer questions and share what has worked for them. Visitors can see solutions in practice and gain confidence to take their own next steps towards warmer, more comfortable and cheaper‑to‑run homes.
To make this happen, Open Eco Homes Devon is looking for local coordinators from across the county. This could be a community or climate group, a Transition initiative, or an individual who is organised, enthusiastic and well‑connected locally. Coordinators do not need to be technical experts. The role is about bringing people together and helping organise a small, manageable local event.
Support is provided throughout. Coordinators receive clear guidance, step‑by‑step resources, ongoing help, promotion, and inclusion on a shared Devon‑wide webpage with a digital map of participating homes. The aim is to make it easy for communities to host events that feel welcoming, practical and relevant to local needs.
Projects like this support Devon’s wider journey to net‑zero by sharing trusted, real‑world experiences and helping communities take action in ways that suit them. By focusing on everyday homes and local voices, Open Eco Homes Devon helps turn climate ambition into practical progress people can see and relate to.
