Okehampton’s New Rail Station Takes Shape
21.07.25

Construction of the new Okehampton Interchange station is well underway, with six months of progress now visible in aerial photos. Set to open in 2026, the station will expand the Dartmoor Line, improving rail connections between West Devon, Torridge, North Cornwall, and Exeter.
Funded by a £15 million investment from the Department for Transport, Devon County Council, and West Devon Borough Council, the project has already seen major milestones. These include realigning 300 metres of track, installing new sleepers and drainage systems, and driving 25 deep foundation piles to support the future platform, footbridge, and lift.
The station will feature a 200-space car park and aims to reduce traffic congestion and carbon emissions by making rail travel more accessible. Councillor Jacqi Hodgson highlighted the environmental benefits, saying the station will help cut Devon’s carbon footprint while enhancing public transport options.
Local leaders and partners have praised the initiative for its role in boosting sustainability, connectivity, and economic growth across the region.
