New Strategic Sustainability Grants to support community climate and nature action
9 June 2026

Mid Devon District Council has launched a new Strategic Sustainability Grants (SSG) scheme aimed at bolstering local community organisations involved in sustainability, climate change, and nature recovery. The programme, announced on 8th June 2026, is designed to provide seed and core funding, enabling these groups to enhance their stability, foster collaborations, and execute tangible actions aligned with the Council’s environmental priorities. The SSG scheme acknowledges the crucial role community groups play in engaging residents, landowners, and volunteers, as well as in piloting innovative approaches and delivering enduring local change.
A total of £80,000 has been allocated for the scheme across the 2026/27 and 2027/28 financial years. Funding typically covers between 25% and 75% of project costs, depending on the organisation’s stage and needs, with successful applicants expected to secure additional match funding or in-kind support. Detailed guidance and application criteria are available on the Council’s website, focusing on Mid Devon community organisations that demonstrate a clear track record or significant potential for local impact in addressing climate change and the ecological crisis.
Councillor Natasha Bradshaw, Cabinet Member for Environment & Climate Change, emphasised that the grants will provide the necessary stability for local partners to grow and make a substantial difference for residents and the environment.
