Major Steps Towards New Cycling and Walking Link Between Ogwell and Newton Abbot
26.03.25

Significant progress is being made on the Ogwell Link project, aimed at enhancing sustainable travel options between Ogwell and Newton Abbot.
Phase One of the project was completed in Summer 2024 and included road improvements to Steppes Meadow, which provides access to Bakers Park car park and onward access to the active travel route to ASDA. These enhancements benefit all road users, particularly residents of Steppes Meadow, as the previously un-owned road is now adopted and maintained by Devon County Council. Additionally, a stretch of the new active travel route was created alongside the tennis courts in Bakers Park, which will open once Phase Two is complete.
Phase Two is progressing well, thanks to land secured by Devon County Council and £65,000 of funding approved by Active Communities’ Executive Committee from Newton Abbot and Kingsteignton Garden Community. This phase involves the creation of a new link that will pass across a short stretch of National Trust land and private land, connecting to the existing highway at Beverley Way. Users will enjoy an off-road path leading to Buntings Close in Ogwell, a quiet residential road. Furthermore, a new shared road crossing over Totnes Road, near Beverley Way, will improve access via Bradley Road.
Design work for Phase Two is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, with ongoing efforts to secure funding for construction.
