The University of Exeter is part of an exciting new partnership that will help decarbonise the electricity system in Great Britain and accelerate progress towards Net Zero.

Researchers, analysts and academics from Exeter, alongside five other academic institutions, will partner with National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) on innovation projects across a wide range of areas related to managing the electricity network in Great Britain. In particular, the partnership will work on:

• Electricity transmission network asset design, operation and maintenance
• Power system modelling and simulation
• Power electronics applications for electricity transmission networks
• Digitalisation of power system including data management and analysis, robotics, virtual and augmented reality and artificial intelligence applications for transmission networks.
• Energy system decarbonisation including low emission technologies and whole system modelling

This is an exciting opportunity for one of Devon’s key institutions to bring their expertise to bear on nationally significant climate issues. Decarbonising our energy supply is central to securing net-zero in the UK before 2050.
