Volunteers at Exeter Central Library and St Thomas Library are running community fridge initiatives to address food waste.

Surplus food from businesses is donated to the initiative, then anyone can collect it and stop good food from going to waste.

In just over a year, the Exeter Central Library Community Fridge has redistributed over 5,000kg of food, equivalent to around 12,000 ‘meals’ with a financial value of at least £15,000 and a 16 Tonne CO2e footprint.

How is this helping Devon reach net-zero?

Action R2. Support communities to establish waste and resources projects.

Action R16. Help find opportunities for unavoidable wastes within the food supply chain to be used as a resource by others.
