East Devon District Council (EDDC) has added two new electric recycling lorries to its fleet, aiming for net zero carbon emissions by 2040. These lorries will serve Cranbrook, Tithebarn, and West Clyst, with trials across the district to inform future fleet upgrades.

Councillor Geoff Jung emphasised the importance of this step towards sustainability, noting the health and environmental benefits. With transport making up 10% of the council’s carbon footprint, this move is crucial for their decarbonisation efforts.

The purchase of the Romaquip RQ-E vehicles is a key part of creating a clean growth zone in the district, setting a precedent for other councils to follow.
