Devon County Council is set to achieve an important milestone, delivering bikeability training to almost 100,000 children. Currently, 93,000 children have undertaken the bikeability scheme, which aims to teach children cycling skills and confidence on a bicycle.
Now, with renewed funding available from the Department for Transport, Devon County Council will be able to deliver the training to a further 11,600 children, meaning more than 100,000 children will understand how to ride a bike safely.
Decarbonising transport is one of the largest challenges Devon faces. 30% of all our emissions are caused by the way we travel. Providing children with the skills necessary to travel safely and sustainably will help to enable future generations to choose sustainable transport options.
