Community energy project earns national award for cutting bills and carbon
24/06/2026

Plymouth Energy Community (PEC) has been recognised at a national level for its work helping people manage energy costs and cut carbon emissions. The organisation has been named winner of a leading UK award for local energy innovation, reflecting its growing impact across the city.
PEC provides practical, trusted support to residents, including advice on energy bills, debt and keeping homes warm. It also works with households, community groups and businesses to improve energy efficiency and install renewable energy, including solar power. Through this work, the charity has supported around 14,000 people over time, including 5,700 in 2025 alone. It has also helped improve more than 400 homes and supported 33 community-owned solar projects across Plymouth.
Partnership working is central to this approach. PEC works closely with local organisations, businesses and the council to deliver joined-up support and create long-term change. This shows how community-led energy projects can improve people’s lives while building a fairer, more resilient energy system.
This work highlights the value of trusted advice, local leadership and community energy. These approaches can support Devon’s journey to net zero by helping people take practical steps that reduce emissions, lower costs and strengthen local communities.
