Four new state-of-the-art, Net Zero employment units have officially opened at Beaumont Way, Langage, marking a major milestone for sustainable business growth within the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport. Delivered by Plymouth City Council in partnership with the Freeport and funded using Government seed capital, the development was completed in just 12 months and is designed to support innovative and fast‑growing businesses in sectors such as marine, defence, space, advanced manufacturing, engineering and clean energy.

Ranging from 750m² to over 2,000m², each unit provides adaptable workshop or production space, high-quality office facilities with lift access, welfare areas, service yards and EV charging. Sustainability has been embedded from the outset: the buildings are BREEAM Excellent and Net Carbon Zero, incorporating solar glazing, LED lighting, solar PV panels, efficient electric heating, high‑grade insulation and extensive natural lighting. These features significantly reduce energy use, lower running costs for tenants, and enhance long-term climate resilience.

The development has also delivered exceptional social value outcomes, supporting local skills and career pathways. Apprentices involved in the construction took part in the opening event, which included tree planting, and the project has created new jobs, work placements, training programmes and ongoing employability support for people moving into the workforce, including those leaving military service.

This new employment hub forms a strategic part of the wider Langage Tax Site and is expected to support around 138 full‑time jobs, acting as a catalyst for clean, sustainable economic growth across the region.
