31.01.23

The Government’s Levelling Up fund is providing £64.5 million to grow the South West and create jobs, boost the economy and open up more equal opportunities. Four projects will be funded in total.
£15.6 million will be used in the research of green technology at the proposed Appledore Clean Maritime Innovation Centre. The centre is expected to open in 2025 and will feature cutting-edge research and industry partnerships, establishing Torridge and North Devon as global leaders for innovation in clean maritime technology and support industries.
Another £13.5 million will be used to create a new railway station at Okehampton with EV charging points and cycling facilities.
The other two projects to be funded will develop a new Somerset Training Academy for Health & Social Care, and deliver the Dinan Way road extension in Exmouth.
How is this helping Devon reach net-zero?
Action T21. Work with government to improve strategic and branch-line rail infrastructure and services, including reviewing the reopening of lines.
Action R5. Support immature industries and new models that have the potential to contribute to delivering net-zero.
