Devon County Council has approved a £3.15 million upgrade to walking and cycling infrastructure around Dinan Way in Exmouth. The improvements, part of the Dinan Way extension scheme, aim to make active travel safer and more accessible—particularly for schoolchildren, commuters, and residents making short local journeys.

The scheme includes new and upgraded crossings, widened footways, and shared-use paths connecting key areas such as schools, bus stops, the Exe Estuary Trail, and the town centre. Notable upgrades include Puffin and Toucan crossings, new footpaths on St John’s Road, and enhanced access to Summer Lane.

The funding was reallocated from the Exmouth Gateway project following public consultation and is supported by Devon County Council, East Devon District Council, and Exmouth Town Council. Construction is expected to begin this autumn and finish by March 2026.

Councillor Dan Thomas said the changes will “make it much easier and safer for people to get around Exmouth on foot or by bike,” helping to reduce car use and cut carbon emissions.
