1. Review of January Minutes

Emily Reed provided updates on the January Minutes. They mentioned that stakeholder mapping had been delayed due to additional support which had become available for developing the engagement plan, to be discussed later in the meeting.

Will had compiled a spreadsheet of stakeholders engaged in developing the adaptation strategy, which would be circulated for feedback.

Emily also mentioned collaboration with the University of Exeter to develop resilience indicators and gather relevant data. A meeting with the Centre for Energy Environment at the University of Exeter had been held, and further discussions would take place in March or April.

ACTION: Emily Reed to circulate the stakeholder spreadsheet compiled by Will for feedback.

2. Presentation by Emily Tulloh and Louise MacAllister of Involve

Emily Tulloh and Louise MacAllister from Involve presented their work on public participation and engagement. They discussed their role in the Innovate UK-funded Net Zero Living programme and their focus on public engagement for climate decision-making. They outlined potential support for the group, including defining a climate engagement strategy, mapping actors and sectors, running workshops, and sharing best practices.

3. Discussion on Engagement and Collaboration

The group discussed the importance of strategic engagement and collaboration. Emily Reed highlighted the need to understand the ecosystem of engagement in the region and avoid duplicating efforts. Doug Eltham suggested mapping what is not happening around priority risks and engaging with missing actors. Paul Minshull expressed concerns about the timing and value of the engagement work, while Rhys Hobbs emphasised the need to identify the target audience and the role of individual organisations in leading engagement.

ACTION: Emily Reed, Doug Eltham and Will Jackson-Nichols to meet with Louise MacAllister and Emily Tulloh to refine the scope of the engagement work and tie it to specific actions in the Climate Adaptation Strategy.

4. Any Other Business (AOB)

Emily Reed mentioned that Somerset was keen to join the meeting in a listening capacity. No objections were raised.

ACTION: Emily to invite Somerset to the meeting.
